Hello, Let’s Nurture readers! If you’ve been following the blog for our past few posts, you’re likely aware we’ve been covering Canva, a great free cloud-based design tool for blogs and websites alike. For those of you not aware, Canva is an excellent tool for those who struggle with creating graphics or images for their blogs.

Cloud Based Canva

Thankfully, with a great user interface and an easy-to-use design; Canva is helping those without artistic abilities make great content for the blogs which are guaranteed to bring in more clicks. Let’s not waste any more time, and get you started in creating with Canva!

  • Plan a Content Marketing Strategy

Before you can begin using Canva for your business, you should first figure out how the tool will be utilized in your overall content marketing strategy. While you don’t need to begin making calendars and charts for planning this strategy, it is important for your business to understand the goals you wish to reach with your content, and which platforms you’ll utilize to do so.

Content Marketing

For example, if you own a business that sells pottery; your content is likely to perform better on sites such as Facebook or Instagram than sites like Twitter or Tumblr.

  • Utilize the Canva Template Library

Remember when we said that Canva is made for those who struggle with graphic design?

Templates

One way they’re able to make this tool so accessible is by offering a large number of professionally created and designed templates for your content. You can browse by themes, topics, and subcategories to discover what looks to work best for your company.

Additionally, these templates are much simpler than starting a design from scratch; and can help you to begin developing the fundamentals of graphic design.

  • Use the Right Visuals for your Post

Before we get to this next point, I want to throw a quick statistic out there.

Did you know visual content is shared 40 times more than any other content on social media?

That’s a pretty big difference, especially for businesses trying to build buzz and attention around themselves. This is why make sure the visuals you choose are appropriate for the content you’re writing or sharing.

Keywords

Thankfully, Canva has you covered here too. You won’t need Google Images or Stock photos any longer. Instead, you can type in a few keywords and get the pictures you need for any subject.

You can also upload your image and customize this as well. Whatever you decide to use for your image, remember: it needs to match your content.

  • Utilize Fonts to Make your Text Stick Out

Alright, we’ve got your image picked out and that’s going to draw some eyes, but you need more than just an image to convey your content and ideas! It’s time to use text and font to bring your content to life, and thankfully Canva also comes preloaded with a variety of fonts, typographies, and other aspects of your written word.

Your Fonts

Try using a font which compliments your imagery. Try to match your text color and style with that of the rest of your image.

Again, it’s all about keeping things consistent and making sure things go together; anything else makes your image come across as jumbled or confusing.

  • Enhance Images with Filters

Ever used Instagram before?

If so, you’re probably familiar with filters which are a great tool if you’re looking to change the tone or feeling of your image.

Additionally, you can even use specific filters over and over again for reinforcing your campaign and boosting your consistency. Adding filters on Canva is fairly simple, you only need to select an image, click their filter tab, and then choose whichever one you find suits your image best.

  • Resizing your Design

Alright, your visual is finished and looking great!

However, there is another catch. When you post your image to your blog, it’ll likely look fine. However, if you’re looking to use your image for things like a banner ad or headline image; it might not work. This is because different types of visuals online require different dimensions.

For this, you’ll need to resize your designs to fit the dimensions of these other image types. While Canva does offer a Magic Resize Tool, it is restricted to behind a $12.95 paywall. If you’re looking to do this for free, however, you can save your image; re-upload it to Canva, and resize it in the File settings under the ‘change dimensions’ section. From there, you can resize your ad and you’re all set to post.

  • Collaborate on Images

Share Canva

In addition to all these features, Canva also allows you to work collaboratively with your team and design partners on your visuals.

All you need to do is click their share feature, link the image, and give your partners the ability to edit your image. Then, all you need to do is forward this design through email or social media to work together on your images.
